Horner coincide con Pérez: La mala posición de salida fue clave en Qatar

Christian Horner, jefe de Red Bull, piensa que la carrera de Sergio Pérez en el GP de Qatar se vio comprometida por el mal resultado del sábado en la clasificación, pese a que el mexicano terminó a las puertas del podio el domingo.

El piloto mexicano realizó un buen avance el último fin de semana en el Circuito Internacional de Losail luego de salir desde el 11° cajón, llegando a ocupar la tercera posición hasta que en la vuelta 41 de las 57 previstas fue llamado para realizar una segunda parada en los pits.

A partir de allí Pérez volvió a buscar remontar posiciones al regresar a la pista en el séptimo lugar y lo hizo realizando adelantamientos sobre Lance Stroll y Esteban Ocon antes de colocarse cuarto cuando Lando Norris debió ir a pits por un pinchazo.

El último escollo para volver a puestos de podio era Fernando Alonso, pero el español se mantuvo a buen ritmo pese a sus neumáticos duros gastados y la posibilidad latente de una rotura, y a Pérez no le alcanzaron las vueltas para darle caza, complicado también por un Virtual Safety Car a poco del final.

"Creo que sin el VSC 'Checo' habría estado junto a Fernando en la última vuelta y habría sido un final fascinante, nuestro problema fue que nos pareció demasiado arriesgado hacer una sola parada con 'Checo', especialmente después de lo que vimos con Valtteri (Bottas). Por eso optamos por hacer dos paradas y creo que sin el VSC durante dos vueltas habría estado justo con él (Alonso) en la última vuelta", indicó el jefe de Red Bull Racing en conferencia de prensa sobre la parte final de carrera del mexicano.

Pese a las situaciones vividas el domingo, "Checo" indicó luego de la misma que el podio ya se había visto comprometido por la mala clasificación del sábado, cuando no logró entrar en la Q3. Horner, por su parte, coincidió con la visión de su piloto cuando fue preguntado si su primer pitstop temprano tuvo que ver con el resultado final.

"Creo que (el resultado) fue porque salía fuera de posición. Si hubiera salido en posición, habría sido una carrera sin complicaciones hoy", indicó Horner.

Pese a que no pudo cosechar su sexto podio de la temporada, el cuarto lugar significó que Pérez logró descontarle importantes puntos a Bottas, quien no sumó por la rotura de uno de sus neumáticos, y ahora se encuentra a 13 puntos del finlandés en el duelo por la tercera posición del campeonato.
